Electrical Panel Upgrades in Beaux Arts Village

A new panel only when a load calculation shows you need one, and when you do, we deal with the city, the power company and the inspector.

Is It Time for a New Panel?

Panels rarely fail outright. More often they run out of room: no free spaces for a new circuit, or not enough capacity for the charger, heat pump or addition you have in mind. Some older panels are a concern in their own right, notably Federal Pacific and Zinsco, whose breakers are known for sometimes staying shut under an overload.

We answer the question with a load calculation rather than a hunch. It sometimes shows that a subpanel, a few tandem breakers or a load-managed circuit will do the job at a fraction of the cost. When an upgrade is the honest answer, the calculation goes into your quote so you can see why.

On changeover day the power is off for some hours. We agree that window with you in advance and keep it as short as the utility and inspector allow.

What Shapes the Price

A panel upgrade has more parts than most projects, and we list each of them.

The new service size

Moving to 200 amps involves heavier service conductors than replacing a panel like for like.

The meter base

Some upgrades need a new meter base or mast; others can keep the existing one.

Panel location

Relocating a panel costs more than replacing it where it stands.

Utility coordination

The disconnect and reconnect are arranged by us, and any utility charge appears on its own line.

Grounding

Older homes often need new grounding electrodes and bonding to meet current requirements.

Circuit count

Every existing circuit is moved to the new panel; a crowded old panel takes longer to transfer.

Permit and inspection

Good to Know Before We Visit

  1. Mention what you plan to add

A charger, heat pump, hot tub or addition all change the calculation.

  2. Find the panel label

A photo of the brand and amperage rating helps us prepare.

  3. Ask about the alternatives

We are always happy to price a subpanel or load management alongside an upgrade, so you can weigh the options side by side before deciding.

How an Upgrade Is Arranged

  1. Assessment and calculation

We examine the panel, service and meter and work through the numbers with you.

  2. Permit and utility booking

Once you say yes, paperwork goes to the city and a changeover slot is reserved with the power company, usually one to two weeks out.

  3. Changeover day

The swap generally fills a working day, finishing with every circuit tested, labeled and inspected.
